The big news is that, with South African Khwezi Gumede yet to arrive due to COVID travel uncertainties, many fantasy cricket managers will have 9 million pounds burning a hole in their pocket. But how to spend it?
Stalwart Signings or Prodical Picks?
With a number of high profile signings, the first XI is set for their best season in years and will hope to be challenging for the Division 1 title. But which of their stars will help you challenge for the fantasy title? Former Frinton boys Kyron Young and Michael Griggs come with big reputations, and price tags to match at 9m each, but should be a regular source of points. While new captain Kemsley Robb will be hoping to prove himself slightly better value at 8m. Regular run scorer James Scott should deliver bang for your buck at 7.5m, while former skipper Danny Goff (7.5m) will benefit from racking up points with bat and ball.
Young or…Not so young
A blend of youth and experience in the 2nd XI presents an interesting conundrum, with Adrian Stockton (5m) and Sam Burkitt (4.5m) both looking good value for money. Veteran spinners Phil Palmer (6m) and Bruce Leeke (6.5m) command high fees, but their miserly bowling could prove good value with points on offer for maidens as well as wickets. Tom Young (5m) was hugely impressive with the gloves in 2020, and also brings huge potential with the bat to your side. Last season’s leading run scorer Stuart Barwood (6.5m) is also likely to be a popular transfer into many sides when he returns later in the season.
Maximising the Transfer Window
With 3rd XI action not set to start until gameweek 4, clever juggling of transfers will be required to have expected big point scorers such as Henry Saddington (4.5m), Robin Mills (5.5m) and Andrew Butcher (7m) installed for the Div 9 kickoff, without compromising point scoring opportunities in gameweeks 1 to 3.
There’s still time to enter your team, or make those all important changes, before the season starts on Saturday 17th April! Transfers remain free until the first game if your XI could use some tinkering.
The teams for the first round of games are posted below, and look out for the team sheets posted during the week to get your side ready for each Saturday!
